Seasonal Selling Strategy: How to Ensure Your Home Stands Out for Autumn Buyers

Give buyers a reason to fall in love with your home by going the extra mile with presentation.

We may be in the final quarter of 2026, but there’s still plenty of time to find a buyer for your home before the year is out.

However, with plenty of stock on the market right now, you can’t afford to rest on your laurels.

To attract and impress buyers, you need to go the extra mile on property presentation.

After all, while some things that are beyond your remit (such as interest rates and the mortgage market), how your property looks and feels is entirely within your control.

Here are some seasonal presentation tips to help you have the best-presented property in the area.

Tidy and declutter

This one applies year-round but is especially relevant in the cooler months. Don’t make buyers fight their way through muddy boots, damp coats or wet laundry when they visit your home.

Maximise daylight

With the days getting shorter, you need to maximise every bit of natural light. That means cleaning your windows and opening curtains and shutters.

Artificial lighting

Use table lamps and standing lamps to complement your fixed lighting. This will create a warm, welcoming ambience.

Ventilate

Avoid musty smells by opening the windows before a viewing (but not for too long; you don’t want it to feel cold when they visit). This will also help prevent condensation build-up, which can be a serious red flag for buyers.

Tidy outdoor areas

Sweep up dead leaf matter and add winter-flowering plants to brighten the front and back gardens.

Turn the heating on

A cosy home is much more appealing than one that feels like a bone-chilling Siberian prison. So if it’s a chilly day, turn the heating on before a viewing. And if you have a wood-burning fire, light it. According to a Zoopla survey, a traditional wood-burning fireplace can add more than £4,500 to a property in winter.

First impressions

Wreaths aren’t just for Christmas – you can buy beautiful, non-seasonal door wreaths featuring natural flowers and shrubs year-round. Hanging one on your (beautifully painted) front door can create a great first impression. Also, ensure the front entrance is well-lit.
